Cinco de Mayo is this Saturday, and New York City is celebrating! Check out our ideas for the best way to celebrate this weekend:
Some of the best food trucks in NYC will come together to truly show off their skills. Truck serving all kinds of cuisine will add a Mexican twist to one of their menu items. There will be food, drinks, a live DJ and overly stereotypical sombreros; a combination that certainly seems like a great time! You can buy ticket packages now or wait until the event to buy single vouchers. Mex Fest runs from 12-7 at Pier 16.
About.com has put together a list of the 5 best margaritas in Manhattan. Normally, I don’t like to endorse lists created by other people when I cannot verify the information that they are giving (I haven’t been to any of the 5 restaurants on the list). I’m making an exception this time because it gives me a great idea: hunt for the cities best margarita! This list can serve as a starting point for you, but with margaritas undoubtedly being in top form all day, restaurant hopping could make for a fun day.
Time Magazine has dubbed Cinco de Mayo #4 on their list of “The 10 Drunkest Holidays.” This means that bars are all having fantastic specials and pub crawls will be in full force. For one small flat fee, you can ensure yourself cheap drinks for the entirety of the day! This “Cinco de Mayo de Derby” crawl (I’m a little rusty on my Spanish, but I’m pretty sure that name makes no sense) features great deals and a place to watch the fastest two minutes in sports, the Kentucky Derby (which also happens to be on Saturday!)
Should you head to one of “America’s top 25 tequila bars” on Cinco de Mayo? That may be the way to go.
Whatever way you choose to enjoy this commercialized celebration of the Battle of Puebla, remember to be safe, have fun and at the end of the night, call a cab.
