Here at CitySights New York, we like things that are cool. We also like things in New York. So cool things in New York.. They’re the best.
More importantly, our goal is to show you how cool New York really is, whether it’s while riding on one of our famous bus tours, or while reading about it on our blog. That is why every Friday we bring you ‘What’s Cool’, where we will tell you, well, you guessed it: something that’s pretty cool in New York City. Get ready for the weekend because here’s what’s cool:
The Manhattan Cocktail Classic is not the pub crawl you went on when you were in college. This is a five day event including dozens of venues featuring the best drinks in New York City. You won’t be drinking light beer or playing drinking games, but rather sipping on an old fashioned and learning how to make one yourself. The Manhattan Cocktail Classic is where I’d expect Don Draper to be hanging out if it were 1965.
The events during the Classic will take place at bars, hotels, museums and even libraries throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn (the name apparently refers to the cocktail, not necessarily the borough). Some of these events include the “Gentleman’s Cocktail Crawl” and “Bourbon Blending 101.” Even mom can get on board with “A Mother’s Day Salute to the Matriarchs of Modern Distilling.” There is something for everyone (21 and over) at the Manhattan Cocktail Classic.
One of the coolest things about this five day classic is that you would never find this in any other city. Only New York is big enough to host over 100 events about fine alcohol in such a short period of time, and it still go under the radar. You won’t be swarmed by frat guys, but rather elegant and intellectual whiskey connoisseurs. Pick and choose what events you want to go to and maybe even wear a fancy suit.
If you’re riding our downtown bus tour this weekend, you can hop-on and hop-off at many of the events on the schedule. The Manhattan Cocktail Classic begins Friday, May 11, and ends the following Tuesday.
