Next week begins Fleet Week 2012 in New York City. America’s finest will grace the city with their presence and everyone is pulling out all of the stops for them. Let’s take a look at a few of the events on the schedule right now:
Parade of Ships (May 23)
Wednesday morning a literal parade of ships will travel up the Hudson River to commemorate the bicentennial of the War of 1812, and kick off fleet week. These ships will include 17 tall ships and 10 war ships from around the world.
These piers aren’t an event as much as they are a place, but during Fleet Week, they are the place. Every day during Fleet Week you will find ship tours, see military demonstrations and even watch musical performances at the pier. At some point during Fleet week you need to make it a point to stop by these Hudson River piers.
Military Day in Times Square (May 27)
Starting a 9 a.m. and continuing through the day, Military Day in Times Square will feature performances from the Navy Band NE and the US Marine Corps Band.
The USMC and US Navy will both be hosting aviation events throughout New York and New Jersey. Locations include Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Cloves Lake Park and Sheepshead Bay HS in Brooklyn.
