2013 Memorial Day Parades in NYC

Memorial Day Weekend in right around the corner, and this year it comes with some sad news. Due to budget cuts, Fleet Week has been canceled in New York City.

The week that celebrates ships and sailors may be no more, but let’s not let that ruin our Memorial Day. After all, it still is the unofficial start to the summer, we still get a three day weekend, and just because our streets won’t be packed with sailors doesn’t mean that we can still honor all of those who have served our nation before us. After all, that is what Memorial Day is about.

In New York City, there are a couple of parades on Memorial Day Weekend to celebrate our troops.

Little Neck-Douglaston Parade

This Queens-based Memorial Day Parade is the largest in all of NYC.

Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade

The Memorial Day Parade out of Brooklyn will be running for the 146th year, which makes it the oldest Memorial Day Parade in NYC.

Memorial Day Parade

Manhattan isn’t one to be outshined by the outer boroughs, but that seems to be the case here. There is a Memorial Day Parade beginning at 12 p.m. on Broadway in Inwood, however it doesn’t have the size or history of the two previous options.

Let us enjoy the weekend, cross our fingers for nice weather, light up the barbeque and celebrate our troops. Happy Memorial Day!
